Asheville School senior Grayson Sword has been named as a semifinalist for the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
The Morehead-Cain Scholarship fully funds four years and four summers of experiences at UNC Chapel Hill. In addition to covering student expenses, Morehead-Cain scholars have access to summer enrichment programs, networking opportunities, and the ability to apply for grants to take part in a wide range of opportunities.
Candidates for the scholarship must be nominated before they can apply.
"The criteria for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship are leadership, character, scholarship and physical vigor," said Asheville School Director of the College Office Leah Lambert.
"Grayson embodies all four through her superb academic work, her involvement with our Honor Council - of which she is now Student Chair - her commitment to issues of social justice, and her contributions to three varsity athletic teams. We couldn't be prouder of her."
All semifinalists are interviewed, and then about 130 finalists are identified and invited to Chapel Hill for Final Selection Weekend. Of those finalists, about half will receive scholarship offers.
Join us in wishing Grayson Sword congratulations and good luck as she continues in the scholarship application process.
