Gwendolyn Smith, D.O., is the newest member of primary care providers at AdventHealth Henderson Medical Group Multispecialty at South Asheville – a hospital department of AdventHealth Hendersonville.

Smith is board-certified in family medicine and focuses on the integration of health for the body, mind and spirit.

Smith earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She went on to complete the UPMC Susquehanna Health Family Medicine Residency Program in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where she focused on full spectrum family medicine, including strong inpatient medicine, obstetrics, and women’s health training.

Smith chose family medicine because it blends her love of working with people with her passion for medicine and the science behind it.

“I approach my role as a family physician first and foremost by building relationships with mutual respect and trust,” said Smith. “I communicate health information through a compassionate but honest, transparent lens. It is in this way that I express care for my patients and honor the integrity of the doctor-patient relationship.”

AdventHealth’s promise of whole-person care – body, mind and spirit – is something that drew Smith to the position.

“I said ‘yes’ to AdventHealth because of the welcoming community of like-minded people. It is important to me to work within a team that values caring for all people through quality health care,” Smith said.

“Dr. Smith has such a compassionate focus on helping people experience health and wellness. She has a broad spectrum of training in family medicine with a special interest in meeting the health needs of underserved populations and community health, which falls right in line with our mission to extend Christ’s healing ministry,” said Christy Sneller, AdventHealth vice president of Physician Services and chief practice officer.

Smith will be caring for patients at AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty at South Asheville. She is welcoming new patients.
