Buncombe County is preparing to commemorate the United States’ 250th year by helping residents preserve their stories. Buncombe County Special Collections is partnering with the State Historic Records Advisory Board on a free workshop that will focus on working with community members to preserve Buncombe County’s stories and narratives of the area’s collective past, present and future.

Special Collections Manager Katherine Cutshall and Register of Deeds Drew Reisinger have partnered with the state archives on a free workshop that will provide tools and inspiration to work with Buncombe’s cultural heritage practitioners and community organization leaders to host community scanning days, collect oral histories, and develop exhibits and programs to share these compelling stories.

Regional workshop

9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, Pack Memorial Library, 67 Haywood St., Asheville

Register in advance. (Note: paid parking is adjacent and free parking is available three blocks away in Buncombe County’s Parking Garage at Sears Alley.)
