Included in the city’s purchase of three new ART buses are transit accessories such as bike racks, fare boxes and transit security cameras.

Asheville’s city offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23-24, and Monday, Dec. 27, in observance of the winter holiday break.

City offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31, as well.

The following city services will be affected by the holiday closures:

ART Bus Service

Asheville Rides Transit (ART) holiday schedule will be closed after 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve).

There will be no service on Saturday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day).

The holiday schedule will be in effect on Saturday, Jan. 1 (New Years Day).

Trash and Recycling

The Sanitation Office will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23, but all trash, recycling and brush collection will run on a regular schedule.

As a reminder, the city of Asheville, in partnership with Buncombe County and Natural Resource Defense Council’s Food Matters program, launched a pilot food scrap drop-off program earlier this year.

Two food scraps drop-off sites are open, one at Stephens-Lee Recreation Center, 30 George Washington Carver Ave. [the center will be closed Dec. 24-26], the other at Buncombe County Landfill Convenience Center.

Parks & Recreation

All parks and Riverside Cemetery will be open on a regular schedule throughout the holidays, though on-site administration offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23, to Monday, Dec. 27, and Friday, Dec. 31.

The Asheville Municipal Golf Course will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 25.

All community centers will be closed Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 1-2.

The WNC Nature Center will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24-25, and on Saturday, Jan. 1.

Harrah’s Cherokee Center

The Harrah’s Cherokee Center — Asheville will be closed through Monday, Dec. 27, and on Monday, Jan. 3.

Emergency Services

All public safety services, including police, fire and emergency response, will operate on normal schedules – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water Resources staff will be available for water-related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday weekends.

Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water-related emergencies, leaks, breaks and no-water calls.
