The Carolina Day School community gathered on campus to celebrate track and field standout Mary Scott Robinson ’20, who will pursue the sport at the college level at Middlebury College in Vermont. At the ceremony, she signed her national letter of intent with the Panthers.

“I chose Middlebury because It was a great fit for me academically as well as athletically,” said Robinson. “I love the programs and opportunities Middlebury has to offer, as well as the setting.”

Steve Henry, Director of Athletics for CDS said, “I can think of no better place than Middlebury College for Mary Scott to continue her athletic and academic journey. The Middlebury College athletic program is consistently ranked as one of the top NCAA Division III athletic programs in the country.”

Among her many athletic accomplishments, Robinson was a two-time CAA Champion in shot put, the 2019 CAA Champion in discus, and was named to the All-WNC Girls Track Team in 2018, having received an All-WNC honorable mention in both 2017 and 2019. Robinson won the 2A state championship in shot put and discus at the May 2018 N.C. Independent School Athletic Association championship at Campbell University. That year, her contributions helped the girls track team take first place among the 35 schools competing.

Robinson has demonstrated a balance of athletics and academics. Upper School Math and Science teacher Dr. Patrick Williams wrote a recommendation for Mary Scott saying, “Mary Scott balances the outward mastery of athletics and academics with inward introspection and deep thought.”

Robinson is the fifth CDS student-athlete this year to commit to collegiate athletics.
