Liam Miller, CDS

Carolina Day School senior Liam Miller has signed a national letter of intent to play lacrosse with Guilford College. The Quakers are a Division III athletic program.

Speaking at the May 12 signing ceremony were two of Miller’s coaches, including Connor Jardeleza, founder of Asheville Empire Lacrosse. “Liam Miller was one of my first high school travel kids,” said Jardeleza. “We went on a journey together to find out what high school travel lacrosse is all about. It was a pleasure to be his coach, a pleasure to meet his family, and I look forward to seeing all the incredible things that he does on and off the lacrosse field.

Lecky Haller, Miller’s coach from when Miller attended Asheville School, said his former player is “passionate,” “hardworking” and a “fantastic teammate.”

“His heart and soul is always in the right place,” Haller said. “Guilford, you’re getting someone who will never quit. Never.”

Miller thanked his coaches, family and friends for their support, and shared his appreciation for being at Carolina Day School.

“Coaches you have made an incredible difference whether you coached me for only one year or for six,” Miller said.

Carolina Day Athletic Director Tauni Butterfield echoed the school’s happiness for Miller’s success. “We’re so excited for you! Congratulations, I know that you’ve worked really, really hard on this. And I know that this is just the moment that you’ve been waiting for,” Butterfield said.

Though Carolina Day School offers lacrosse skills clinics for younger students, it doesn’t yet offer lacrosse as a competitive sport, which makes Miller’s accomplishment of playing on the college level even more exciting. “You will represent the Wildcats at Guilford playing lacrosse,” said Butterfield, “and it’s really not that far away, so we’re going to come and watch some games. We congratulate you, and we wish you the very, very best.”
