The Asheville Christian Academy voleyball team nailed down two critical wins last week as they approach the final stretch of the regular season. The Lions took out Pisgah High School in the first match of the week. The first two games were very close, but the Lions managed 25-22 and 25-23 game victories before comfortably beating the Bears 25-14 in the third and final game. Peyton Hightower led the Lions with 15 kills. Katie Alexander picked up 11 digs and 29 assists while Avery Jackson had 15 digs and three kills.
In one of the most competitive matches of the year, the Lions outlasted Carmel Christian in five extremely tight games. After dropping the first game (19-25) the Lions stormed back for a 25-23 win in the second game and a 25-18 win in the third game. However, Carmel Christian responded taking the fourth game 25-20. In the fifth and deciding game, the Lions edged out a 15-13 victory. Katie Alexander filled the stat sheet finishing with 28 digs, 50 assists, and four kills. Paige McDonald led the team in kills with 13, but Riley Shuman (12 kills) and Kaylee Gilkeyson (11 kills) also contributed to the Lions’ front-line attack.
The win pushed the Lions overall record to 13-9 on the season. ACA has a busy travel week with games at Franklin and Hickory High School. They will finish off their week hosting St. Stephens.
