ACA's Nahndi Smith

The Asheville Christian Academy girls basketball team jump started their week with an overpowering performance over Hickory Christian Academy. The Lions used a full court press that created multiple first quarter turnovers and in turn led to easy ACA baskets.

The Lions cruised from the opening minutes to the end knocking off Hickory Christian 56-27. ACA was led by Caroline Sikkink who poured in nineteen points, grabbed four rebounds while adding seven steals to her stat line. Nahndi Smith also tallied nineteen points for the Lions while EP Sluder scored sixteen points.

The ACA girls team picked up their second win of the week in a closely contested game against Carmel Christian Academy. The Lions trailed by three at the end of the third quarter but a strong fourth quarter finish propelled the Lions to a 40-38 win. Sikkink again led the Lions in scoring with twenty points. Smith added sixteen in the win.

The Lions finished off the week with a loss against Hickory Grover Christian Academy. The ACA girls held a 12-10 lead after the first quarter but it went downhill quickly from there as Hickory Grove went on to win 51-32. Smith scored ten points for the Lions. Sikkink fouled out in the fourth quarter and managed to only score nine points. Riley Waites added five points for the Lions.

The ACA boys team went into a free fall last week dropping all three games. Playing without their top two scorers, Raishaun Brown and Tyler McKinney, for most of the week proved to be too much for the Lions to overcome. The ACA boys lost for the first time in school history to Hickory Christian Academy early in the week and then fell to the #23 ranked high school team in the country, Carmel Christian Academy by seventeen points.

Although Brown remained sidelined all week, McKinney returned in full force in the weeks final game against Hickory Grove Christian Academy. McKinney scored thirty points for the Lions but it wasn’t enough as ACA lost a late lead and struggled in the final four minutes against the Hickory Grove zone.
