The Writer’s Workshop, a non-profit arts organization established in 1958, presents classes for writers of all levels. Each class meets online on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., except where noted, with a 45-minute lunch break. Pre-registration is required at www.twwoa.org. Classes are $80; $75 workshop members. Financial assistance is available in exchange for volunteer hours.

On July 17, the Writer’s Workshop will present a fiction workshop, in-person with Karen Ackerson.

The class will focus on the essentials of writing an engaging story or novel. Character and conflict are key elements that will be discussed, including creating a sense of place, dialogue and enhancing one’s writing style. Students may bring up to five pages to the class for review.

Ackerson has taught fiction writing for over 25 years.

The class will meet at 387 Beaucatcher Road in Asheville. For more information, email writersw@gmail.com.
