On Friday, March 22, Diana Wortham Theatre is proud to present master cellist Sébastien Lépine and ESCA Quartet, performing Lépine’s original multimedia concert IMAGINATIONS 5.1, in partnership with the Asheville Symphony for the Asheville Amadeus festival.

Boasting a reputation of excellence built over the past 15 years, Sébastien Lépine has made his mark as a Canadian cellist, owing his success in part to his unique musical concepts. His secret lies in placing the utmost importance on his audience by coming up with truly authentic musical offerings. The passion and sincerity he puts into his art is obvious, as is his strong desire to breathe new life into classical music.

This multimedia performance — featuring projections of pictorial works and videos — takes the audience on a fascinating crescendo of musical thrills. Showcasing all their talent, energy and synergy, Sébastien Lépine and ESCA Quartet present a program of original works for solo cello and string quartet, paying a unique tribute to one of Quebec’s most important painters, Ozias Leduc. Combining tango with the classical suite as well as Chinese, Jewish and Anglo-Saxon folk music, IMAGINATIONS 5.1 features Lépine’s remarkable arrangements for this unusual instrumentation. The concert will also include Sébastien’s composition Imaginations, which was inspired by Leduc’s homonymous series of drawings and commissioned to celebrate what would have been Leduc’s 150th birthday.

Lépine is accompanied by ESCA Quartet, made up of violinist Amélie Lamontagne, violinist Edith Fitzgerald, violist Sarah Martineau, and cellist Camille Paquette-Roy.

The Diana Wortham Theatre is located at 18 Biltmore Ave. To puchase tickets (Regular $35; Student $30; Child $20; Student Rush, day-of-the-show with valid I.D. $10), call the theatre’s box office at 828-257-4530 or visit www.dwtheatre.com.
