Nest Boutique + DIY Studio is a unique place in Biltmore Village that offers stylish clothing and accessories for women along with opportunities for them to develop creative skills in workshops offered by local artists.

Shop owners Susan Stewart and Millie Giangrasso developed the concept of a combination boutique and studio after they met at a craft workshop and became friends a few years ago.

“We wanted to have a boutique for women to come to and feel beautiful,” Susan says.

“Our goal is to help every person who walks through our door to feel not only beautiful, but confident.”

The boutique carries a wide selection of styles and designs in women’s clothing from sizes 0 to 24.

“That has been well-received by the community,” Susan says of the range in clothing sizes.

The afternoon sun streams invitingly into the boutique area of the shop where sweaters, dresses, tops and warm scarves are displayed along with hats, handbags, shoes and jewelry. Gift items such as jewelry and trinket boxes and home accessories including decorative pillows also are among items offered in the boutique.

The boutique also offers creations of local artisans, including jewelry.

“Susan and I also wanted to create a space for showing local products,” Millie says.

The two friends also wanted to create a place where women can come and learn artistic crafts in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

A few steps above the boutique, is a spacious gathering area with a long, comfortable couch and chairs. And upstairs from that area is the studio featuring an 18-foot long table, which Susan’s uncle handcrafted from 150-year-old barn wood. Vintage chandeliers hang above the massive table around which women gather while engaging in creative pursuits.

“The options back here are limitless,” she says.

Workshops ranging from water coloring to jewelry making, fiber art wall hangings and other decorative crafts take place in the studio.

“Our studio space creates a unique experience where individuals can come together and connect with local artists to learn skills straight from the source,” Susan says.

Originally, Millie and Susan planned to teach classes themselves. But after discovering so many local artists who were willing to offer workshops, Millie and Susan decided to tap into their talents.

“Asheville is so full of talented people,” Millie says.

Upcoming classes are being scheduled for the first of the year, including a weaving workshop with fiber artist Aston Zager and metal smithing with Emma Zannetti, a jewelry maker and silversmith.

“Our workshops are carefully curated to offer exclusive crafting experiences specific to the artist it features,” Susan says.

The studio is also available for private events and gatherings.

In the past year-and-a-half that they have been in Biltmore Village, Millie and Susan say they have come to feel at home while getting to know other business owners.

“It’s really great here in the village,” Susan says. “It’s a community that has a really unique style.”
