Robyn “Ziggy” Ziegler, owner of Ziggy’s Bakery and Deli, is offering curbside take-out service.

The doors of Ziggy’s Bakery and Deli are wide open to customers seeking take-out foods for breakfast and lunch.

“If you call ahead and place an order, we’ll bring it to your car,” said owner Robyn “Ziggy” Ziegler.

Ziggy’s is among area dining establishments that are open for take-out and delivery service following Governor Roy Cooper’s recent statewide closing of bars and restaurants for dine-in customers.

Cooper ordered the closures last week as a preventive measure to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus in North Carolina.

Although some restaurants in Asheville remain open with limited service, many have decided to close until further notice, as signs on their doors indicate.

“If we kept the lights on, we didn’t know what business would trickle in,” said Anthony Coggiola, owner of La Cantina in Biltmore Village.

Along with the loss of business, Coggiola is concerned about the welfare of his employees who have been placed on furlough. Even though they are eligible for unemployment compensation, Coggiola said the people who work at his restaurant are facing financial challenges.

To help his restaurant staff, Coggiola has started a care and comfort initiative that provides them with weekly groceries for an extended period of time—as long as necessary, he said.
