Leadership Asheville’s final Buzz Breakfast of the summer is set for Aug. 22 and will focus on the theme “Racial Equity: How do we embrace it?” Kimberlee Archie, City of Asheville equity and inclusion manager, and Darin Waters, UNC Asheville associate professor of history and executive director for community engagement, will be the presenters.
The breakfast is open to the public and provides a chance to network with alumni of Leadership Asheville and other community leaders. This event takes place at the Crowne Plaza Resort Expo Center at 1 Resort Dr., Asheville. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m., the program begins at 8, and the cost is $20.
Archie was appointed a year ago as the City of Asheville’s first-ever equity and inclusion manager. Her prior posts include family support director for the United Way of King County in Seattle, Washington, and deputy director of the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
Waters, who teaches courses in American, North Carolina, Appalachian, African-American and Brazilian history, specializes in the history of race relations in the U.S. and Latin America. He also is co-host of The Waters and Harvey Show, broadcast weekly on Blue Ridge Public Radio.
