The Gospel Music Fan Awards are fan nominated and fan-voted awards. The Waymasters were nominated for “Favorite Country Gospel Group” along with the Singing Cookes, Crimson Ridge, Crossfire, the Freemans, Sunday Drive, the Roarks, the Cupps, the Drummond Family and the Parish Family. The reception of the award was just the latest in a string of impressive milestones for the band.
Originally from Asheville, N.C., the Waymasters cemented their rise in popularity in 2015 when they won Acoustic Artist of the Year at the prestigious ICGMA Awards. Since then they’ve lead the field of talented Christian Country Gospel bands and even became part of music history earlier this year when they were celebrated for achieving the unprecedented accomplishment of producing the most successful charting album of all time when they surpassed Michael Jackson, Rodney Crowell, Brad Paisley, and Katy Perry on the list of most #1 singles from one album. The group’s now infamous outing, “Smoky Mountain Gospel Vol. 2” tops this list with six #1 singles. The before mentioned artist’s albums all share second place with five respectively.
The Gospel Music Fan Awards hold a special place in the hearts of most gospel artists because of the absence of a particular entity or organization selecting the award recipients. By contrast, the gospel music fans themselves make the selection causing many artists to cherish these awards above all others.
“We don’t do this for awards but being named America’s ‘Favorite Country Gospel Group’ by the fans is an honor like no other.” says Darrell Frizsell, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the Waymasters. “When the fans think that much of you it really is a humbling experience. We thank God everyday for what He’s done for us because we know it’s not us.”
With the latest honor of Christian Voice Magazine 2017 Gospel Music Fan Award for Favorite Country Gospel Group, the Waymasters continue to make their mark in the Christian Country Gospel genre as the leading band and one of the country’s favorite gospel artists.
