March 4, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Food Connection is a local Asheville nonprofit guided by a simple idea: connect freshly prepared surplus meals from restaurants, events, caterers and institutions in the Asheville area with nonprofits who feed the hungry. To date Food Connection has rescued over 30,000 fresh meals to deliver to communities in need, which otherwise would have gone to a landfill. Some recipient organizations include community partners to distribute food are the Veterans Restoration Quarters, Steadfast House, BeLoved House, East Asheville Welcome Table, Spring Creek Community Center in Hot Springs, Trinity Place Shelter for Runaway Youth, Music Works! after school program and My Sister’s Place in Madison County.
Many of the meals are delivered via Asheville Taxi who offer their services to transport the food at a reduced rate.
The quality of the meals delivered is stellar, “Foodtopia” Asheville food including crab cakes, beef sliders, pork tenderloin, grilled local veggies, kale, quinoa salad and grilled salmon. These meals are nourishing the bodies and souls of some of WNC’s most food-insecure people.
